How do you get it?Malaria is caused by a parasite called Plasmodium. This parasite is transmitted through mosquitoes, commonly through infected female anopheles mosquitoes. When the female anopheles bites a person, the parasite will be transmitted into the human.
The Plasmodium multiplies in the liver and infects red blood cells. Plasmodium makes the liver swell up, so if a doctor was checking to see if a patient had malaria, the swelling liver is a sign that they might have it. |
